Tickle your baby can help him to learn to speak faster. That’s what scientists at Purdue University in Indiana decided their research.
They say that parents stimulate their children while they talk to him actually helps to recognize words in a continuous stream of chatter. The team of researchers claims that language development is much more connected with touches than previously thought.
“We found that infants associate touches to the words they hear which those touches may have an impact on the word they learn,” said Amanda Seidl, a professor of speech, language and hearing sciences at Purdue, who led the study .
“We think physical cash transfers only affection, but our research shows that touch can do by relating to the incoming speech signal in babies. Others have looked at the role of contact in the physical development of the child. But so far the impact of touch on language learning has not been studied. ”
Learning words is a challenge for infants, since most of the words they hear are presented in a continuous speech stream, rather than single words.

Parents pause as they pronounce the name of their child, but they do so rarely with ordinary words.
“They have to find the words before they can attach meaning to those words,” Seidl said. “Because the names of body parts are often the first words are learning that babies, we speculated that contact could act as a tool to understand a word.” A total of 48 babies were tested for four months in Purdue’s Infant Speech Lab two groups. They were on the lap of a parent put in front of an investigator and had to listen to a continuous speech stream of nonsensical words.
In the first experiment, each time the nonexistent word dobita ‘was uttered, touched the baby’s knee. After listening session showed that the babies ‘dobita’ were drawn from the continuous stream of words.
In the second experiment with the same concept, the adult touches his own chin or eyebrow in place of those of the baby. This showed that the baby had not remembered the nonexistent word.
“It did not matter how much time the child spent watching the face of the adult. They were not able to use these signals in the same way as when their bodies touched, “Seidl decided that now is looking to speak to individual differences in how parents against their children and how they touch it.
